Scoby

Emerging from the vibrant creative crossroads of Winston-Salem, SCOBY is a five-piece band that blurs the lines between indie rock, synth-infused alt, and exploratory psychedelic grooves. Anchored by this unique lineup – driving drums, dual sculpted guitars, a pulsing bass, and layered synthesizers – SCOBY crafts an immersive sound that is equal parts melodic heart and textural depth.

Since convening in the basements and dormitories of Wake Forest University, SCOBY has become known for high-energy live performances that balance precision musicianship with spontaneous exploration. Their music reflects a tight synergy: rhythmic propulsion interlocking with shimmering synth lines, bold guitar interplay, and emotive hooks that linger after the end has faded. Lyrically, the band moves between introspective storytelling and expansive, evocative imagery, creating songs that are both personal and universal. Whether in a crowded house show or on stage at a local venue, SCOBY invites listeners into a space that feels both familiar and new, rooted in the DIY ethic of the community that they strive to uplift.

With a growing catalog of originals, including a full length album, “The Perfect Pleasure” released in April 2025, and a reputation for engaging live sets, SCOBY is steadily carving out their place in the regional music scene and beyond, carrying the spirit of Winston-Salem with them on every stage they step onto.

The timing couldn’t be better because the band released their debut record, ‘The Perfect Pleasure,’ in March 2025. Since then, several songs have wormed their way into my ears, demanding me to return for another listen. Their brand of synthy emo scratches an itch for me.
